Prostate Cancer Pictures

Prostate cancer follows lung cancer as the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Experts estimate that of the 189,000 men diagnosed with prostate cancer, 30,000 will die of it. However, due to increasing awareness and early diagnosis, there has been a significant decrease in number of prostate cancer death.  Staging of prostate cancer range from 1-4.

PROSTATE CANCER PICTURES: prostate cancer is a slow-growing type of cancer. That is probably why early symptoms of prostate cancer are not easily detectable until the tumor grows and impede on surrounding tissues. The prostate surrounds the urethra – where the urine and semen pass – and when a tumor grows, it interferes with the flow of urine and semen during ejaculation.  Therefore, a common early sign are changes in urinary pattern. Men mostly notice:

1. Trouble initiating or stopping urination,

2. Slow flow of urine,

3. Reduced amount of urine, and

4. Increased urination at night

Although rare, symptoms such as blood in the urine or pain during urination may be seen prostate cancer. However, this should be a cause of concern since it can suggest an infected prostate or Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH), a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate. Another early symptom of prostate cancer that is frequently overlooked is a problem in ejaculation or erection. This may be characterized as difficulty in initiating erection or a painful ejaculation.

Since prostate cancer doesn’t show obvious signs, prostate cancer is diagnosed only during routine assessment or checkup. The most common diagnostic tool for prostate cancer is the digital rectal exam. As the tumor grows it becomes palpable at the rectum. Positive findings of lumps warrant a PSA or prostate-specific antigen test. PSA is done to determine cancer staging and the patient’s response to treatment. Prostatic biopsy is the definitive prostate cancer diagnosis. Prostatic biopsy is done by inserting a needle through the rectum into the prostate gland. The specimen is then submitted for cancer staging. Staging of prostate cancer depends on the level of tissue involvement. Other tests are available to determine the spread of cancer to other organs such as CT Scan, MRI, and ultrasound.

PROSTATE CANCER PICTURES shows the stages of cancer, which can accurately determine the best recommended treatment of prostate cancer. In general, there is a trilogy of treatment applied in prostate cancer. The approach comprises of surgery, radiation and hormonal manipulation. Surgery is usually done during the early stages of the disease, while radiation, along with surgery, is indicated for patients with advanced stages of cancer. Hormonal manipulation, on the other hand, is done to decrease levels of testosterone, since some cancer cells are androgen-dependent.

The Prostate Cancer Pictures illustrated indicate that there are no preventive means to stop Prostate Cancer. Awareness of its signs and symptoms will help in controlling the disease in its early stages. Annual prostate cancer screening starting at the age of 45 could actually save your life in the future.
